Six weeks to learn the five lifts we use most, in a group small enough that nobody gets lost at the back.

Who it is for

People who have never picked up a barbell, and people who did once and have been away long enough that it does not count any more.

  • You will use an empty bar for longer than you expect, and that is the point.
  • Nobody is watching you. Everybody in the room started where you are.
  • You do not need a base level of fitness to begin. This is the base level.
  • Most people add a small group session alongside it from about week four.

What a session looks like

  1. Ten minutes of easy warming up, the same routine every time so you stop having to think about it.
  2. One lower body lift, taught slowly, usually a squat or a hinge.
  3. One upper body lift, usually a press or a row.
  4. Two or three easier sets of something that supports the lift, carried out at a talking pace.
  5. Five minutes at the end to write down what you did and what the next session should look like.

When it runs

Sessions are bookable a week ahead and every one of them is capped. The full week is on the timetable.

Who coaches it

All three of us have been here since 2017. There is more about each of them on the coaches page.
